Stereotype- A simplified description applied to every person in some category.
Jessica has the stereotype of a "queen bee". She's very popular and beautiful so everyone in her school envy's her.
Latent Functions- The unrecognized and unintended consequences of any social pattern.
Throughout the movie, Jessica’s goal is to get back into her body, while this is going on she also repairs the relationship of people she’s hurt and fixes her parents failing marriage.
Sociological perspective-The special point of view of sociology that sees the general patterns of society in the lives of particular people.
Jessica and her friends all represent girls with the perfect lives. From this you can conclude that girls who are beautiful, rich, and have popular boyfriends have the perfect lives and never experience the pain that girls without these 3 things have.
Coorelation-A relationship in which two (or more) variables change together.
When Clive put in the lost earring he transformed into Jessica, so then Jessica transformed into him.
Social Dysfunction- The undesirable consequences of a social pattern.
When Jessica steals the earrings from the African themed store she never hoped or thought that she may turn into a man.
Feminism- The advocacy of social equality for women and men.
Jessica (now Clive) and her friends go to a club to spy on Bianca (a possible suspect for someone who may have cursed Jessica and turned her into a man). While at the club a group of college guys starts to hit on Jessica's friends in a vulgar way. Jessica then stands up for her friends and tells the guys to leave.
Gender Conflict Approach- A point of view that focuses on inequality and conflict between men and women.
When Jessica turns into a man she is faced with new challenges and obstacles she must overcome. One of these obstacles is her wardrobe, all of her clothes are tight fitting typical teenage girl clothes which are not fit for a man. This shows a conflict of treatment between how a man wearing women's clothing and a woman wearing women's clothing are treated by society.
Cause and Effect- A relationship in which we know that change in one variable causes a change in another.
When Jessica is turned into a man she has effected not only her life but also her families and her friends lives.
